For Beginning students
the first session introduces students to the fundamentals of welding, safety, and hands-on techniques across multiple welding processes. The first week is dedicated to an overview of welding, workplace safety, and personal protective equipment (PPE), emphasizing hazard awareness and proper shop etiquette. In the following weeks, students progressively survey common welding processes, starting with oxy-acetylene cutting and welding, which provide a strong foundation in heat control and metal joining principles. As the course progresses, students gain hands-on experience with various welding processes, including GMAW (MIG), SMAW (Stick), FCAW (Flux Core), and some GTAW (TIG). Each week focuses on a specific process, covering its applications, advantages, limitations, and essential techniques. Students practice welding on common steel materials, learning proper machine settings, electrode selection, and welding positions. Instructors provide demonstrations and individual feedback, ensuring that students develop confidence and competence in each method. Safety remains a top priority, with ongoing reinforcement of best practices to minimize risks and create a productive learning environment. By the end of the course, students will have completed a series of common welding exercises that demonstrate their developing skills. Toward the final weeks students can concentrate toward refining techniques, troubleshooting common welding issues, and completing personal projects. While the class does not result in professional certification, it provides a solid foundation for hobbyists, and those considering a career in welding. Students leave with an understanding of core welding principles, hands-on experience with multiple processes, and the confidence to pursue further training or independent welding projects.
